BOTTBALL 2014 NFL Draft Blog

OH HELL YES.

Draft Day is here.

Finally.

Mercifully.

This is going to be a night (and subsequent few days) full of lots of bold, and likely preposterous, opinions. I'm throwing this out there as a central place to save all of these HOT SPORTS TAKES.

Having them here saves them forever, so we can always remind Gow that he said "Desmond Bryant is close to JJ Watt".

BTW, I didn't make that up. He actually said that. On 11/4/13 at the Pourhouse. I saved it because I knew it would be fun to revisit... which is exactly the point of this post.

Let's have some fun tonight.

***UPDATE: This is still a live blog for the remainder of the draft, so stay engaged and comment. Gow, I'm looking to you for updates on these dudes since you actually know who they are.

Also, Josh Gordon out for the year? So much for the Cleveland Renaissance.

  1. Does anyone even know who Desmond Bryant is?

  2. Gow: extremely high on something called Pierre Desir. Went to something called Linwood.

  3. Gow regarding Khalil Mack to OAK: I don't understand this pick. Where's he gonna play? They already have Sio Moore!

  4. It's a good thing I don't have to do anything important at work ever.

  5. Case in point, I spent at least 30 minutes trying to do that thing where you flick your pen so it spins on your fingers and you catch it again. I'm also fairly confident one of my bosses and I will be leaving work early to go to happy hour.

  6. More illogical drafting going on. Dallas trading their 2nd and 3rd to, of all teams, the Redskins to draft an undersized DE. Demarcus Lawrence must have been extremely high on their board.

  7. I liked the Browns pick of Joel Bittonio, who actually was my #17 overall player on my Big Board (which wasn't posted on the blog). Sure it's not a WR, and with the possible Josh Gordon (year long) suspension it's a gamble. But, I like that they didn't let it factor into the best player available philosophy.

  8. Hageman to the Falcons is an insane good pick. This might move up the time-table to switch to a 34 defense, instead of a hybrid 34 43.

  9. Does any else hate hearing/seeing these old FB players? It just seems like a cliche.

But I will say Meester's camo jacket was sweet.

  10. Yes, not a fan of the old fart football players reading picks. It's making this whole production take even longer.

  11. Kouandjio is good value, yes? Wasn't he a first rounder?

    1. Value, I'd say he is a 2nd rounder. He plays way too high, and is sloppy with his technique... at least scouts have complained about it. Also his arthritic knee is a concern. He only makes sense in the 2nd due to his physical size/strength. I would have gone with Morgan Moses, but you knew that already.

  12. Harvin, Tate, and now Richardson. So basically Seattle WR strategy is just to be the fastest guys on the field.

  13. With the Seattle pick, all I can picture is that little girl who can name the whole roster. If you don't know what I'm talking about, it's your loss. It's pretty cute.

  14. Twitter is like 3 picks aheadd right now... Really weird. These old dudes are really slowing things down.

    1. Goddell needs to rethink this whole thing. I think they like it for the retired player outreach, but this is silly.

  15. Also... Stephon Tuitt. 5.00+ 40 time? Have fun with that.

  16. So... at this rate, the Vikings could possibly draft the #1 RB at 74.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Cowboys gift the Skins with draft picks, and the Skins find a way to screw it up. Murphy is the biggest reach in the draft thus far.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Trent Dilfer said, "You need to get your QB a blankie". He was speaking of a TE.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Marisa Scime (SD Fan) is just as hot as the Charger cheerleaders. WOW!

Replace the old balls with hot chicks, and I'll stop complaining about the wait.

    1. Was getting kid to bed. But I'll google now. Thank you.

  20. Cody Latimer going with the smooth operator outfit.

  21. Carlos Hyde to SF.

At the moment, I'll say he's the highest drafted Rookie RB in FF this season.

    ReplyDelete
  22. DAMN. I was hoping Jean-Baptiste might make it to 74.

    1. Over-rated. He's no Pierre Desir.

    2. Well I don't know many CB's left, so I'll cross my fingers for your boy Lucky Pierre from Linden Hills Community College... or whatever it was.

      Delete
  23. Okay RIch Eisen just called the offseason, "the non-playing season".

    ReplyDelete
  24. Niners GM Balke is a trade broker extraorinare. This is impressive.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Fuck! I wanted Allen Robinson.

    ReplyDelete
  26. CBs that the Vikings could look to: Phillip Gaines (Rice), Pierre Desir (Lindenwood), Marcus Roberson (Florida)

    ReplyDelete
  27. Gow, you are going to LOVE the Vikings pick.

    1. Steal. Crichton is #38 on my board. That is a very good pick by Spielman.

    2. Mayock creaming himself about the guy. I guess I should be excited

      Delete
  28. Sims to TB, Mason to STL.

RB's I liked are going to muddy situations. Split workload at best.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I'm really wishing I knew what's going to happen to Josh Gordon. I just hoping there is a chance this won't result in a year-long suspension.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Texans DL gonna be pretty good

    1. Irish Chocolate really gave teams a scare. His interest level in FB and social media interest is probably why he dropped.

  31. Packer's pick, Khyri Thornton is a great pick. He'll be a good 5T. Packers are not making any mistakes with their picks.

    1. McGill has good length and height, but is very stiff in the hips. He is probably more of a FS than a CB.

      Delete
  33. Texans must be trading for Ryan Mallet from NE. Mettenberger at the top of the 4th is an option, but this is odd.

    1. On the same note, maybe the Browns know something we don't about Gordon. Weird that they haven't taken anyone.

      Delete
    2. Yeah. The only thing I can think of, is maybe they think they can petition Gordon't first offense. Which I think was one of those college-to-the-NFL infractions. There might be a case to be made.

  34. John Brown to KC shouldn't be overlooked. Under the radar pick that will pay dividends.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Replies
    1. If I didn't like all the Browns picks, I'd be worried about them not being WRs.

      Delete
    2. The Browns can't count on Ben Tate being healthy the whole year. So it makes a lot of sense. They were always going to pick a bulk carry RB this year.

      Delete
  36. Kathy Conley (Denver Fan) not hot.

Dear Mr. Goddell, Only allow hot women to be on TV. No one wants to see fat ugly women.

    1. Pretty sure she could have been a solid OG for Peyton.

  37. Wow. Awesome pick for the Vikes. Love McKinnon.

    1. Happy to hear that, but WHO THE FUCK IS PLAYING CB OPPOSITE RHODES, SPIELMAN?

      Delete
    2. There must be a level of confidence in Derek Cox, whom they added to a 1 year prove-it deal.

      Delete
    3. Measurables all look good: 5'9, 207, 4.41 - so small, power, fast. Twitter is saying this dude used to be a QB?

      Delete
    4. A QB that never passed the ball. Georgia Southern ran ran ran the ball. He has sick capability. As far as measurables go, he is maybe better than C. Patterson. No joke.

  38. TD Packers: Rodgers (CAL) to Rodgers (CAL)

    1. Personally, I think that Aaron Rodgers should have had the first right of refusal to pick this guy. Afterall, now his jersey has to have an "A" on it.

Or Maybe it's a ploy to generate more jersey sales.

  39. Someone needs to tell Crockett Gillmore he has 2 last names
