For those of you who were not at the last MNF, I briefly
proposed the idea of moving our precious chats to a cell phone app called “WhatsApp”.
For those of you who don’t know what this is, it’s a web based group chat
service (which is free) it has a few more options than regular group texts but
most of all you can set up WhatsApp to be less intrusive on your iPhone (or in
the case of Crabs, his Motorola Sidekick) than to be getting 27 texts, each
other which you’re checking to make sure it’s not important. It’s good enough
that Facebook bought it for 16 billion dollars a year ago. I will be sending you each a link via text
inviting you to get WhatsApp. Once you download it, I’ll create a group and
invite you…you join it and boom. No more complaining about irrelevant texts. If
people don’t join, well I tried…let the BOTT Monday night meeting discussion
begin on how this will negatively impact the chapter or some shit like that…

What's the advantage here? It's still going to buzz when a message is sent right? I also assume it makes it easier to send each other dick pictures, which we all know is inevitable. So that will be nice.
ReplyDeleteHere's the thing... I sort of like our group texts because I know people are looking at them. By using WhatsApp, people have to actually go to the app to see the discussion and participate. In a way, using WhatsApp turns into these blog comments - very few people are going to use them and ultimately they just become ignored.
ReplyDeleteI'll have a conversation wherever people want to have it. But I want everyone to be there, not just the 3-4 of us willing to log in and actually use the app.
And I get that people don't want their phone buzzing non-stop but there are ways to make that go away. Pretty easily, actually.
