Monday Update: Final Standings & FF Playoffs

Gentlemen,

First day back in the office in over a week and lots to do, so I'm just doing the bare bones here. If Coconuts wants to brag, gloat, or call more attention to his Championship victory, he'll have to write his own blog post.

Here's the final standings with $ that will be paid out via LeagueSafe shortly:

PLACE TEAM PRIZE $ POINTS $ LOSER $ EMPIRE $ TOTAL $
1st Juan Coconuts  $400  $15  $10  $425
2nd Andy Crapswell  $200  $30  $230
3rd Rod Jerks  $100  $15  $5  $40  $160
4th Kenni Hana  $30  $30
5th NooShoo Gow  $15  $5  $20
6th Ned Titwarmer  $5  $5
7th Marcus Whitebread  $30  $10  $40
8th Bill Fredricks  $45  $45
9th Ike Crabs  $15  $15  $30
10th Dick Dallus  $15  $15
 $1,000
The Empire $ is not being awarded to me, but it needs to carry over to next season. Thus, I'm awarding to myself and going to keep it in my LeagueSafe account until the 2014 season. My entry fee next year will be $140, and I believe we can set it up as an Empire League that will have a separate pool for carryover money each year.

The only person that can win that money next season (which will be $80 at that point) is Juan Coconuts. He's officially Public Enemy #1. I look forward to us all ganging-up on him at the draft.

The Champions
I officially started this league in 2005 and we just now completed our 9th season, which means we've had 9 champions. Here they are:

2005 - Dick Dallus

2006 - NooShoo Gow

2007 - Bill Fredricks

2008 - Kenni Hana

2009 - Ike Crabs

2010 - Ike Crabs

2011 - Rod Jerks

2012 - Rod Jerks

2013 - JUAN COCONUTS!

Whenever we get a trophy, which hopefully will happen this offseason, these are the names that will be printed on it. Congratulations to Juan.

The list of those yet to win:
  • Andy Crapswell (Oh so close...)
  • Marcus Whitebread (Mark Brunell's 5 TD's)
  • Ned Titwarmer (Brian Westbrook's laydown)

Playoffs (INPUT NEEDED)
There has been some discussion about reformatting our current playoff setup - I'm up for whatever, but we need to figure this out quickly.

As a reminder, our typical playoff format allows you to submit as many teams as you're willing to pay for, similar to brackets for March Madness. Different combinations of players (1 from each team) filling out a roster of 2 QB, 4 RB, 4 WR/TE, 2 K.
  • Some have complained that this really comes down to submitting the most teams. While this isn't exactly true, it certainly does help your odds to submit multiple entries. And the more you submit, the better your chances.
  • Some have also simply requested to "mix it up", both with our actual league and playoffs. We can debate our league another day, but I'm certainly willing to mix up the playoff format if the league desires to do so.

The option I would propose as an alternative actually mirrors our regular season league. We would have a draft, probably via email over a couple days, fill out individual rosters (we can determine size), and each player only gets drafted once.
  • The draft would be fun because it not only factors in taking the best players, but also the ones that you believe will advance and play the most games.
  • Personally, I want to try this, but we need everyone on board. Especially to keep the draft moving...

Would love your thoughts in the comments. We need everyone to chime in, if not below then via text. If we decide to go the second route, I'll draw names and we can start the draft today.

Finally
Not sure when my next post will be... I'll try to keep an update on here for the Playoff FF, whatever format we choose.

But in the meantime, thanks for another awesome season. You all know I dig Fantasy Football more than most, but I wouldn't like it this much if we all didn't participate to the level we do. I know lots of people that have not kept in touch with their college buddies as much as we have, and I feel like this league gives us a reason to do so... And as your commissioner, that makes me feel like a proud papa.

Not to get all sentimental, but I really love this league and look forward to continuing on as your commish for many years to comes, hopefully with this exact same group of guys.

And a special thanks to those that began their blogging career this season. I think Bottball stepped up to a new level this year, and hope to have it continue even more next season. We need to figure out different posts to have during the offseason...

Anyway, getting long-winded here... You guys are the best. Love you all.

Keep on keepin' on, boys.

  1. I have no strong opinion so consider me along for the ride with whatever others want to do for a playoff FF format.

    1. P.S. Fuck Mark Brunell

P.P.S. Even if the Commish doesn't agree, Yahoo! calls me the winner of this league in 2004 so I'm claiming it. I guess it is sort of like when colleges claim titles before the NCAA started ranking teams and naming a National Championship.

    2. Edit: That was supposed to say "before the AP started ranking teams" in the P.P.S.

    3. You can still claim your other league title all you want. It was another league. If we all started a keeper league next season and ran it parallel to this one, I'm still only declaring one league winner for THIS league.

We go through this every year, but the 2004 league wasn't this league. We didn't form this until 2005. Go find Zamzow if you want some sort of prize for that league - he was the commissioner.

I think I might actually Edit our League History (which I can do as commish) to make this clear as day for you, Whitebread.

    4. Agree to disagree. I said agree to disagree!

      Good day, sir.

    5. You don't get credit for having a couple manager overlap in another league.

BTW, Yahoo now has the record straight for THIS league. Adios.

    6. Next you're probably going to tell me that Green Bay's pre-merger "NFL Championships" don't count either.

      Now. Good day, sir.

    7. Yes, I think you just made my point.

  2. Regarding entry fee if we went the draft route, I'm thinking something in the $20-30 range, depending on what everyone wants.

Also, it would strictly be total points for your entire roster. No Head-to-Head. No bench spots.

  3. [Insert Fart Sound] I'm checked out of FFB this year. I've had enough disappointment with fake football. I was trying to think up a format around picking winners and points for/against... but it's Monday and I've only had one coffee.

    1. Oh knock it off Gow. You're playing regardless. You don't get the option to bow out.

    2. I'm interested in trying a new draft playoff format this year. I'm horrible at the other one, so this might give me some hope. It seems like it will be hard to organize before Saturday though. FYI: I'm flying out to LA on January 1, but I'll have email access.

    3. We can make it work. It will be entirely via email or text, whichever people prefer. I can keep track of all the picks. My guess is it will go faster than we think.

  4. Gow is just pissed off that the Browns already fired the coach they hired last year. He feels so beaten down and run over.

  5. I would do the draft format if we could keep the entry fee low ($10-$15)? It's kind of jammed into a short time frame and I quit watching football in week 16. I honestly couldn't tell you who's even in the playoffs except for the teams that clinched in week 16. I feel like I would have had no preparation and be like Drew pre-this years draft. After only winning $5 this year, I have no incentive to lose $30 more.

    1. I see your point, but this is sort of the fun of it. Strategies are all over the board and there isn't endless articles and lists to prep with. It's sort of just selecting players that you like on teams that you think will do well. We're all in this boat together.

    2. Pre this year??? I took 3rd last year ya butthole....amend it to say 2005-2011.

Just because you had the lowest $$$ total doesn't mean you can poop out. It's not like the movie Flight of the Navigator where you don't remember what happened for 8 years....week 16 ended 14 days ago.

  6. I'm up for either or both formats. The old format is optional, anyway.

  7. Side note: I like the idea of everyone having to do at least one blog post every year. Maybe that would be lame to make it mandatory, but it makes them a lot of fun to read when people pick a topic they really have fun with and run with it.

  8. I'm officially in for whatever amount we determine but like $20-25. I'm guessing we have no choice but to do an email draft, with that said are there any rules to it? time limit? draft order?

    1. I'll randomly draw a draft order. Hell, I might even video it on my phone and post it on the blog just so everyone knows it's kosher.

Regarding time limit, it's difficult to enforce, but I'm sure we'll start texting each other when it's someone's turn. This can be sort of an experiment.

I'm looking into sites that actually allow us to do this online, but I think we'll still need to do an email draft.

  9. On second thought, I just did the math and if we do a traditional lineup QB, RB1, RB2, WR1, WR2, TE, Flex, K, Def and all ten of us are in...someone will be having to "start" people like Mike Tolbert or Eddie Royal with Cheese. I'm more willing let a few bucks out of the pot to actually have a team that might see a football than cheer for something called, "DaRick Roger" (Da = The) (Rick = Richard = Dick) = "The Dick". So please feel free to bow out, NewShoo, Ned and anyone else.

    1. Could we do open teams? Anyone can draft anyone and we're not limited to 1 from each team? I have no problems bowing out if you guys only want to do 8 teams.

      Delete
    2. Open teams, what do you mean? For the old version? Or for the draft version?

Andy, yes - that's the point. You go a little deeper on rosters. We're only filling out starting lineups, so while it's not going to be the formidable lineup your used to throwing out when 32 teams are available, these are all still players you've heard of.
