Gentlemen,
There was a moment where I, among many, started to wonder if we were beginning to revert back to our old ways... Back to the days of having to offer up a BJ to get an agreement on a trade*.
But the tradewinds came-a-blowin' in this past week and shook up the league something good. Actually, I'm not sure how much it will change the impact of many of these teams... we'll see. The bigger point here is that trades are fucking fun. They're fun to negotiate (even when Gow talks out of both sides of his mouth), they're fun to debate, they keep the league engaged in what's happening.
I love trades. And in our league, unless Alfred Morris is available on waivers, it's the best way to dramatically improve your team. Yes, they involve risk. But there is also potential reward as well. And that gamble is what makes them fun. While I don't advocate trading just to trade, I will say that there is no reason that you shouldn't be perusing everyone's roster for potential deals to be made.
- Was there a guy you didn't get at the draft that you really want? Ask about him.
- Are there players off to slow rosters (like fucking Stevan Ridley) who might have frustrated owners looking to deal? Send a text to see.
- Do you just need a goddamn RB because somehow everyone is suddenly injured or on bye and you don't have someone to play? Yeah, you could start Mark Ingram, but why would you do that...? A trade is your answer.
Guys, we're almost through 4 weeks. The regular season lasts only 13. We're a quarter of the way through our entire season, including the playoffs. You can continue to watch your dumpster fire of a team shit the bed week-after-week, hoping something changes...
...OR you could try something else.
Your move, gentlemen. Happy dealing.
*Don't think you're off the hook, Coconuts... I still haven't forgotten about the BJ owed to me after the Marvin Harrison-Patrick Crayton deal of '07. THE JUICE IS RUNNING.
The Games
Quick-fire recap again this week because we really need to get to discussing where we're meeting tonight...
Bill Fredricks (146) vs. NooShoo Gow (98)
- Bill's team cannot be stopped. Seriously. Everything I just said about you should be trying to trade and all that bullshit does not apply to JoJo. His team is perfect.
- Pai Gow traded for Frank Gore this week, which looks smart today. However, he still is rostering Chris Johnson, so... Push.
- Gow still has something called Caleb Sturgis (is that really a person's name?), while Bill has Sproles. Bill is going to run away with Point $, and could set the season high mark tonight.
Ned Titwarmer (116) vs. Andy Crapswell (98)
- Ned's team is overshadowed by Bill this week, but after Brees is done tonight, Ned could easily be over 140. Don't sleep on him either...
- I'm really mad I didn't draft Jordan Cameron.
- Andy had a pretty good week, but will still fall to 2-2.
- I still maintain that DeMarco Murray isn't good.
Rod Jerks (82) vs. Marcus Whitebread (83)
- I swapped out Edelman for Lamar Miller about 30 minutes before kickoff last night because I wanted a guy playing tonight. Sorta wish I had just left it now...
- I really didn't have a very good week, and have no business winning... but neither was Whitey. We both pretty much sucked.
- Marcus acquired Spiller this week, trading away Gore. This will likely cost him a victory this week.
- (KNOCKS ON ALL KINDS OF WOOD)
- Lamar Miller needs to get just 0.7 points for me tonight.... Never assume anything.
Dick Dallus (85) vs. Kenni Hana (110)
- All Day is just fucking great. It makes me so happy he's a Viking, until I remember that we're wasting his prime dicking around with shitty QB's and in-over-their-heads coaches.
- Contrary to earlier reports, Tony Gonzalez is not dead.
- Reggie Bush... another guy I wish was mine.
- This one actually has potential to swing. Kenni is done, so Dallus needs 25 points from Colston/Clay. Yahoo! has Dallus' odds at 18%.
Juan Coconuts (80) vs. Ike Crabs (104)
- Juan said THANK YOU VERY MUCH to Crabs for trading him Torrey Smith and Gio Bernard. Without them, Coconuts is probably already done.
- How many times did Juan swear at the TV yesterday watching Demaryius toy with the Eagles?
- Another one that actually has potential to swing... Crabs is done while Coconuts counters with Graham and Hartley. Knowing Graham could do this by himself, it's really close. Yahoo! gives Juan 36%.
Tonight
WHERE THE HELL ARE WE GOING?
By my account, we have Whitey, Gowser, AndyCraps, and me. Closed circuit to those dudes: let's figure this shit out ASAP.
I'm game for whatever as long as there are lots of TV's and it's loud. I tend to talk loudly when arguing with Gow.
Thanks for reading. Enjoy the game, boys.
When I lose I'm going to be very annoyed. 1) Because I could have waited and done the same trade next week 2) Who loses both running backs to injuries in the same week? I'm not sure when McFadden went down but that is a whole lot of potential production lost in a tight week. Watching Fred Jackson run in a TD with Spiller watching from the sideline was painful; knowing I had Fred Jackson as a handcuff doesn't help when you can't substitute intraweek.
ReplyDeletePourhouse?
I'm happy you said Pourhouse because I've wanted to try it out. Let's just call it.
ReplyDeleteWhere would you advise parking around there?
There is a ramp one block up Hennepin on the same side of the road as Pourhouse/across the street from Gay 90s. I imagine it is $5 after 4:00 pm.
